There are a number of different transport options to take to reach the Languedoc. The quickest and most cost-effective way is by air, although the excellent TGV train service provides and enjoyable alternative.

Driving to the Region also opens up the possibility of returning home with a boot laden with some of the Region's lovely wine and food!!

Getting about the region is easy, with a good network of trains and roads. Outside the busy summer period, the region is relatively congestion-free.

The Languedoc is well served by airports. Most of the major European airlines fly into one of Nīmes, Montpellier, Perpignan, Carcassonne or Toulouse airports.

The budget airlines serve the area well and have accounted for the upswing in tourism to the region. Ryanair, Easyjet and BMIBaby all offer return fares from as little as £40/€55 return.

Getting to Languedoc from North America is straightforward. There are direct flights to Paris from over 30 major cities. From there you can take an internal flight or take the excellent TGV train (journey time from Paris is 4-6hrs).

An alternative (and possibly cheaper) option is to take a flight to London and then take a budget airline (see below) straight to the region.

Trains Gītes

> Eurostar from London connects to the TGV train from either Lille or Paris and arrives at either Beziers or Agde

Driving from the UK

> The Languedoc is a 12 hour drive from the French ferry ports. Travelling down the A75 from Paris you will cross the spectacular Millau bridge.

Flying from UK and Ireland

> British Airways have a daily scheduled flight from Gatwick to Montpellier, Toulouse and Marseille for around £80 return if you book far enough in advance.

> Air France fly daily from Heathrow direct to Toulouse. They also have a range of daily flights from Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh to Paris Charles de Gaulle. From here you can get connections to Montpellier and Toulouse.

> For the best deals, especially with Ryanair, book as far in advance as possible.  They normally show their flight timetables 6 months in advance. Return flights from £40 are often possible.

Flying from USA & Canada

> American Airlines, Air France and British Airways fly from most major American Airports to Paris or London and then connect with one of the European airlines to the Languedoc region.

> From Canada, Air France, British Airways and Air Canada all fly direct to Paris.
